February is Flying! - February 20, 2012

Hi Everyone,

It's been a whirlwind start to the semester with a handful of gigs, recording projects, and other events.

It was a pleasure to play with an all-star cast for Alison Kitchen's CD release, present a cymbals clinic at the Colorado Music Educators Association Convention, work on the finishing touches to Jenny Bird's upcoming CD (stay tuned for our CD release concert dates), perform with the talented Heather Antonissen, and perform with members of the USAF Academy Band "Falconaires" on a recital as part of our Top of the Nation Honor Band.

As part of the festival, I annually serve as a guest conductor for one of the bands.  This year was a lot of fun as we performed John Mackey's composition, "Foundry."  Thanks to all of the Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas band directors and their students who participated.

In other news, Tracy submitted a recording of our flute and marimba duo for the National Flute Association Convention at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and we were accepted to perform this August.  Viva Las Vegas!

I have a March full of adjudication/clinician engagements, performances, and travel and hope to give this site a big overhaul by April (to finally include audio and video!).  Stay tuned and stay in touch!

A New Masters Degree and a New Semester - January 4, 2012

Greetings Everyone!

We have exciting news to share for the new year-  Adams State was approved and accredited by NASM to offer a masters in music education, with an option for the degree to be predominantly online.  We plan to start the first cohort in August of this year.  Message me for more information.

In other news, I'm looking forward to a busy semester with some wonderful CD releases, clinics for jazz festivals, percussion events, and the state music conference, a new course to teach in music business, a faculty solo recital, and much more.

And as a new year's resolution, I'm planning to make frequent blog updates so stay tuned.

Happy New Year!

James

PASIC 2011 - November 16, 2011

As always, PASIC was a wonderful experience.  A special congratulations to my student, Josh Wohlrabe for his performance in the 50th Anniversary Marimba Orchestra.  What an experience!

Also, thanks to the great folks at Vic Firth, my student, David Noller was given the opportunity for a free lesson with Australian drum set artist, Grant Collins.  He had a wonderful time, as did all of my students in attendance.
